South Korea has been attracting various international students into their undergraduate, graduate and research programs. Universities that are oriented towards international students conduct 30% of their lectures in English.

South Korea is one of the best destinations to pursue higher education for Nepali students. Korea’s higher education institutions include universities, industrial universities, junior technological universities, and other institutions.

Types of Programs

There are many programs available for students who want to study in Korea. Some of the programs include:

 

  1. Regular Semester Programs: These are the courses of the regular semester which contain both Korean and International students. These courses run from the spring till the fall semesters. The professors usually teach in either Korean or English.
  2. Short-Term Exchange Programs: Many universities have international exchange programs with partner universities in various parts of the world. These programs allow students to study at Korean universities for a very short period, normally summer or winter break, a semester or a year.
  3. Vacation Period Programs: Various summer and winter programs are offered in some universities of Korea specialized for foreign students. These classes are normally offered in Korean language and culture and some general education courses.

Types of Higher Institutions

  1. Junior Colleges: They offer two and three-year programs
  2. Undergraduate Programs: They normally have four years of coursework just like the Western universities
  3. Graduate Schools (Masters and Ph.D. Programs)

Requirements for Student Visa

  • Certificate of the last school attended
  • Letter of personal reference of the financial affidavit
  • Bank Statement
  • Documents proving the Research Activity in case of Research Scholar

Employment While Attending University

The international students can work part-time jobs up to 20 hours per week during the semester and unlimited hours during vacations. The applicants must, however, have a recommendation letter from their faculty professor and must have been enrolled for more than six months at a higher education institute.

Scholarship Programs from Different Foundations

Other scholarship programs are also offered to international students by various scholarship foundations and institutions in addition to the scholarships offered by the Korean government and Universities.
